Review: While the cover didn’t nearly grab me as others have, I of course couldn’t pass up a chance to read about bears again!
Pretty much the story revolves around how the bear got to eating someone’s sandwich, which involved a bit of a fun adventure. The language is straightforward and engaging, and even has a bit of a lyricalness to it that I liked.
Really loved the artwork in this, vibrant and bold and did a great balance of having the bear be a bear, and yet a little more than just a bear. Some fantastic expressions and detail. I almost thought it was ‘set’ in San Francisco as our bridge is pretty well known, but the rest of what would be the city/park looked a bit more generic to me.
And of course, like everyone else had mentioned in their reviews, the ending has a great twist. Pretty sure most wouldn’t have ever guessed it. Definitely a picture book I would love to have in my collection if I collected picture books (alas the space!).
I’d like to thank the publisher via Edelweiss for allowing me a digital ARC of this.
Cover: As mentioned earlier, the cover didn’t quite grab me, and probably the weakest art of all the illustrations in the book. But that’s saying a lot as the artwork inside is gorgeous. Pretty straightforward cover with the bear eyeing a tasty sandwich. Probably eyecatching enough for any young kid.
